A note on methods and procedures
In my first post on environmental health activism
in India I used the full names of a couple people I interviewed. Some of my
interviews are not recorded and are instead informal conversations with other
academics in India. Other interviews, for example those with activists, are
being recorded and are an important source of data. Rather than distinguish
between them in the posts I'll do here, I've decided to guarantee the
confidentiality of everyone with whom I speak.
This means I went back and altered the earlier
post titled "Environmental Health Activism in India...the beginning." It also
means that when referring to something someone said I'll preface it by "As an
interviewee explained to me..." It's a bit awkward, but I think I have to do it
this way if I want to continue posting observations from the field. Outside of
family and friends, I don't suspect anyone is reading this blog, especially not
the entries loaded with academic jargon. But I nevertheless need to protect the
identities of those I quote, so this is the procedure I will use.
