Welcome to the Zavelogue

In this entry I provide some background on the now concluded Zavelogue (for those new visitors wondering what this blog is all about) and invite you to visit my new India-related blog: The Curious Stall .

The Zavelogue began in mid-2005 when I found out I had received a Fulbright Senior Scholar Research Award to study environmental activism in India. I wanted a way to document the experience my family and I would go through during our six months in India, a way to write about our observations in India, and a way to discuss the research I was doing.

During our time in India, I traveled to Vietnam for more research and a conference, and the whole family made a side trip to Dubai, United Arab Emirates. These side trips are also part of the Zavelogue. You can begin with the first entry below, and browse your way through to our return to the U.S. in May and some of the post-return reflections I posted in June. If you want to read more selectively, use the category links on the right side of the page. These will allow you to filter entries into the respective categories.

When I put the Zavelogue to rest, I was looking for a way to continue thinking and writing about India, and in particular the changes we saw happening in India as its economy grows. So I started The Curious Stall. The Curious Stall will be less about family and more about how I make sense of India's changes as a sociologist.

I most likely won't be checking the comments to the Zavelogue from here on out, so please send me a personal email if you have a reaction to something I wrote or just want to drop me a note. Happy reading!
