WWOOF is an international program, in operation in some countries for
more than 30 years, that matches farms needing labor with people
wanting to experience farming and farm life. Originally "WWOOF" stood for
Weekend workers on Organic Farms. In areas where there is interest in
longer-term stays, the program has been renamed Willing Workers on
Organic Farms. Chapters have been established elsewhere in the U.S.,
in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and throughout Europe, Africa, and
Asia. People have "WWOOFed" their way across Europe and America
making a valuable and often exciting connection with organic agriculture.
Southeast Willing Workers on Organic Farms - SEWWOOF - is a regional
service, and annually publishes an annotated list of farms seeking
workers or apprentices. The list of farms is made available to
interested workers who will be responsible for contacting the farm(s)
of their choice and directly arranging for interviews. Opportunities
might range from full-time live-in plans to weekend commuting in a kind of
bed-and-breakfast arrangement. Compensation could range from room and
board to a share of produce to wages. The time span could be from one
weekend to a full year or more. The role of SEWWOOF is to provide
information; all details are negotiated directly between farmer and
prospective worker. For more information, please contact:
