Greetings
Chapters for Willing Workers On Organic Farms (WWOOF)
service are across the country and around the world.
It has fast become, during the last 20 years or so, along with
similar organizations, part of the river of organic agricultural efforts
everywhere which have been the mainstay of informal, professional farm
education through supporting farmers and farm apprentices.
We are the southeast chapter of WWOOF or Southeast Willing
Workers On Organic Farms or SEWWOOF, and are in
collaboration with the organization Eco-Ag based in Nortth Carolina.
The basic mechanics are simple. Each year, we publish the SEWWOOF Farm
List of organic farms in the southeast. Potential farm apprentices
contact us after learning of our service through various agriculturally
related sources. After receiving their information forms and a fee of
six dollars, we send them the Farm List. They then contact the farm
which matches their training and/or interests and arrange with you,
the farmer, a working relationship on the farm. This relationship is
usually initiated by the apprentice and arranged by both apprentice
and the farmer.
SEWWOOF does not act as a liaison in this relationship. However, on
occasion, should the farmer need more contact with potential
apprentices, we send to them upon request, a list of apprentices who
have given permission for us to release their contact and background
information, thus giving the farmer the opportunity to increase contact
with apprentices. The farmers also complete a form and return this to
us with a small fee of nine dollars.
Our usual time for adding new farmers to the Farm List is in the
winter. However, if it is more timely for you to join the list now,
please print, complete and sign the form now and sent it to us with fee,
and we'd be glad to add you to the List.
If you know of other farmers who would like to be on the list, please
print and reproduce the form below and give it to potential listing
farmers.
Good Farming!
