About Stephanie

Stephanie Secrest at the Kentucky Symphony Orchestra's Valentine's Gala - February 2006.

Stephanie Secrest divides her time living in Southwestern Ohio with her four cats, and visiting her physicist fiancé and his three cats in Philadelphia. (And, no, a Secrest didn't find a Secrest. Stephanie was just so excited to become one that she decided to take her fiance's last name now.)

By day, she's an office assistant at a small graduate school. By night, she's a clerk and freelance writer for a newspaper. In between, she writes chick lit and science fiction with and without romantic elements. Occasionally, she's a "professional" student working on her Bachelor's in English with concentrations in journalism and creative writing. All a test of time management.

Even though Stephanie hangs out in the romance writing community, she is not a traditional romance writer. Stephanie's philosophy on writing is to never be boxed in by writing in one or two genres. Her chick lits explore fear: fear of following one's bliss; fear of crawling out of one's comfort zone. Her science fiction explores our ever increasing dependence on technology; the cost of urban sprawl; and addictions. Happy endings are optional.

Professional memberships include Pennwriters and Romance Writers of America.

When not writing, Stephanie enjoys scrapbooking, rubberstamping, keeping Southwest Airlines in business, preparing for the biggest yard sale ever, and drooling over Hamid Karzai and Hugh Laurie.
