Counseling Practice Information

Thank you for your interest in my practice. I hope this answers many of your questions.
What can I/we expect from counseling therapy?

You can expect a relationship with a professional who cares about you and has the experience and skills to guide you toward making positive changes in your life. If you are coming as a couple or family unit, you can expect each person to be treated respectfully and fairly. The same sensitivity which is shown toward individuals will be shown toward the relationships which join those individuals as a couple or family.

A good counseling relationship is built upon the same foundation as any healthy relationship: trust. After our first session, you'll be better able to discern if our relationship will be helpful to you.

During the course of therapy, you will be challenged and supported. You will have the opportunity to look upon difficult situations with new perspective, try out new behaviors, and work toward positive changes. Marriage and family therapy is an active process in which the therapist does much more than simply listen. You can expect me to respond openly and genuinely, just as I will expect you to do the same. That is how we will maintain the high level of trust which makes change and growth possible.

How long does it take?

Generally, you can expect to meet with me several times. Depending on your situation, we may meet weekly or less often. The initial session is 90 minutes. Additional sessions will usually be 50 minutes for individual therapy and 90 minutes for couple or family therapy. The frequency, length and number of sessions will depend on whether you are in crisis, the number of people attending the sessions, and your goals for change. Your needs may be met in just a few sessions, or you may decide you would like to continue for a longer period.

How much will it cost?

Fees for therapy are $125 for a 50 minute session and $225 for a 90 minute session. I do not refuse services to any person, couple or family who sincerely wishes help, but is unable to afford my full fee.

The total financial cost of therapy will depend on the number of times we meet and the amount of any reimbursement you receive from your health insurance company.

The value of therapy cannot be measured in dollars or evaluated one session at a time. The real value of therapy is best measured in terms of the increased satisfaction and well-being of individuals, couples, and families over an extended period of time.
