Formal identification does not usually take place until third grade. However, students in kindergarten through second grade are provided with differentiation as needed by the classroom teacher through consulation with the A.G. teacher. Students can be identified before third grade if necessary. If you have concerns or questions, please contact your child's teacher. You can also contact Mrs. Krutsch for more information.

Please see the Wake County Public Schools Academically Gifted Program web site for more information about identification of needs.

Q4L

At Dillard Drive Elementary School we are proud to announce a unique program for students in kindergarten through second grade.  It is called Q4L (Quality for Learning).  This program is for high-achieving students.  It is similar to Explorers, a third grade program.  The A.G. teacher will visit whole classes periodically to conduct an enrichment lesson.  Students who excel in this lesson and are high-achievers in the classroom may be chosen to participate in weekly small group sessions. These sessions are meant to enrich the curriculum.  If your child is chosen to participate in Q4L, you will be informed.  You may certainly decline to let your child participate. Participation in small group sessions does not mean that your child has been or will be identified for the A.G. program.

This is the "Official" Q4L Letter:

Dear Parent(s) and / or Guardian(s),

The Wake County Public School System has initiated a program entitled Quality for Learning (Q4L) at Dillard Drive Elementary, Swift Creek Elementary and Smith Elementary. The program, for kindergarten, first, and second grade students, recognizes, nurtures, challenges, and expands each learner's academic potential. The AG resource teacher works in partnership with each classroom teacher at the aforementioned grade levels to plan a variety of experiences designed to develop the learner's skills in higher level thinking, objective decision making, critical thinking, and problem solving.

Several times during the school year, the AG resource teacher will facilitate whole class instruction for each kindergarten, first, and second grade class. Students who demonstrate exceptional potential may participate in one or more small group activities. Participation in a small group experience does not mean that the student has been or will be identified for AG services. Q4L provides rigorous learning opportunities.

Sincerely yours,
Suzanna G. Krutsch
Academically Gifted Resource Teacher
