Sweet Saigon!

We're really excited because in a week's time, we are off on holiday! We're going to Ho Chi Minh City for a week!

We plan on spending a few days in Saigon to take in the sights and get a feel of the place. We want to see the Reunification Palace, War Remnants Museum, Saigon River, the famous French-built buildings, Cholon and Binh Tay market in the "Chinatown" area. We also plan on going to Tay Ninh to see the famous Cao Dai church, and the Cu Chi tunnels - you see both of these places on a day-trip from Saigon. For the remainder of our trip, we are undecided. Perhaps some extra time in and around Saigon, or head down to the Mekong Delta and spend a couple of days on water! :-)

We've been here for over 10 months now. 2 of the reasons we wanted to live here were 1) to experience a different way of life, and 2) to be able to travel more extensively around the region. So far, we've done well at the first one, but lousy at the second. In the whole time we've been here, the only other trip we've taken outside Hanoi was to Hoi An, and this was a compulsory FPT work event anyway!!! (Although, VERY nice!).

So since I had some classes finishing, we thought now was a great time to take off for a bit. The lovely people at my school are actually delaying the start of a new class until after the holiday. Isn't that great?

We're also planning on staying at the Grand Hotel - check out the pics - I love ornate buildings!
