Chipolata
When Russell started working at FPT, he got
to know a few engineers. Probably his closest friend and protege is young Ha Huy
Hung. He's a lovely guy from Nghe An province. Because there are so many "Hung"
first (actually, last) names, Russell wanted to differentiate this Hung
(pronounced like Hoong or Hoom). So, because he was HHH, he became "triple H"
and then, in our shorthand, simply "Trip".
Russell and I used this nickname just so that we could differentiate Hungs, but Russell then mentioned this to Ha Huy Hung himself. He was delighted! Soon, "Trip" was well known and clearly a favourite of Russell. Other people wanted to get their own nickname. Russell had to tell them that nicknames can't be ordered; they must be earned!

P.S. There is another engineer called Hung LV (the naming convention tends to do this, at least at FPT). So he's now Elvis (LV, geddid?).
