Motorbike Culture

Motorbikes are to Vietnamese what cars are to Australians. Either a form of transport, a lifestyle, or a status symbol, depending on your perspective.

We have noticed that in the relatively short time since we were last in Hanoi, the number of people riding extremely flashy motorbikes has increased out of sight. This is a picture of a row of Yamaha Nouvo motorbikes. These are considered "tres chic", especially for men (as they are quite powerful, at 125cc).

Honda and Yamaha are the 2 biggest brands, followed by Suzuki and a Taiwanese brand called SYM. Motorbike dealerships housing gleaming new bikes are found on every main road in Hanoi.
