Side Table
We needed a small table between our chair and couch in the family room, just big enough for a drink and maybe some snacks. I wanted something simple, yes very stylish and unique. I went with birch because it works well with the shape. I cut the top freehand with a handheld jigsaw and a good blade after marking the line with a pencil on a string, then simply rounded over both sides with a router. The legs are made from 2 long pieces glued together, and cut on my friend Denny’s band saw. I don’t know why, but I cut all 3 legs at the same time. I thought they would be more uniform that way, but it ended up being more of a hassle to saw. They are joined at the center with a 3–pointed spline I cut out of oak, about 4” long. The spline fits into a mortice in the back of each leg. They are connected to the top with dowels. It has a single coat of hand–rubbed clear poly.
