PROGRESS REPORT THREE

MAY 1999

Only two weeks to go until SECCON, and just time for this PR3 to give you a last-minute update on how things are going.

How to Get to SECCON
A combined map and guide to how to get to the Hertfordpark Hotel and SECCON can be found here; it also has information on car parking arrangements.

Accommodation
If you haven’t booked a room yet and would like to do so, please let us know as soon as possible. You should have had hotel booking forms with your PR1, or you can download them from our web site. We are now out of single rooms, but doubles and twins are available, and we may be able to find sharers. If you sent us a booking form before Easter you should have received a confirmation from the hotel.

If you need to make, or change details of, room bookings later than 20 May, you can contact the hotel directly on 01438 779955. Make sure that you mention SECCON to get the special room rate. If your enquiry involves sharer-finding, you will need to apply through the convention The hotel cannot help arrange sharers.

Convention Programme
The Opening Ceremony will be at 7.30pm on Friday, with the rest of the evening fully programmed. Programme on Saturday will run from 11am to 6pm, and as the pre-existing booking for that night has now cancelled we may provide some diversions for those who want to stay in the hotel that evening. Sunday’s programme will run from 11am to 6.30pm, with informal stuff going on till late.

Registration
Registration will be open 6-9pm on Friday, and 10am-1pm on Saturday. At other times, contact a member of the committee - we won’t be hard to find!

Walk-In and Day Memberships
The rates for these are: Full weekend £27; Day £8 Friday, £12 Saturday, £12 Sunday.

Ask Stephen Baxter
After the opening ceremony on Friday evening, we’ll be running Ask Stephen Baxter, a Guest of Honour interview with a difference - it will be based on questions submitted in advance by you. So, if there’s a burning issue that you’d like to see Steve questioned on, this is your chance! Please email questions or send them on a postcard to us to arrive by 25th May, to give us time to prepare the interview. Note that we don’t guarantee to ask your question, especially if legal action might result. Unless it’s really good...

Volunteers
We’ve planned SECCON to be a fairly small, relaxed and lightly-programmed convention, so we shouldn’t need armies of staff. A helping hand now and again never goes amiss though, so if you would like to volunteer to be a gopher please contact us or let us know when you register.

Fundament
We are trying to get a cast together for a performance of Fundament, OUSFG’s musical version of the Foundation trilogy. If you are interested in helping out in some way, please contact SECCON as soon as possible, or when you register at the convention. Thank you.

See you in Stevenage!
