"Arthur and the Invisibles" Review

The Ex-Professor gives it a B.

IMDB.com plot outline: Ten-year-old Arthur, in a bid to save his grandfather's house from being demolished, goes looking for some much-fabled hidden treasure in the land of the Minimoys, a tiny people living in harmony with nature.

First, the good stuff: The animation is to die for. The subtle facial expressions, the translucent skin tones, the delicacy of leaves and flower petals, the jewel-like colors... lovely!

The bad stuff: the story was so bad I had time to admire the animation. It's... choppy. A story thread is started, and left hanging, and the plot wanders off in a different direction... which also gets left hanging. The frustrating part was seeing where just a line or two added (or cut) would have stitched things together and made the picture tighter and more suspenseful. Still, the filmmaker (Luc Besson) gets to his happy ending but the movie spends a lot of time wandering off in the weeds, figuratively and literally.

Worth a look if you want to admire the pretty, and certainly not a waste of admission bucks, but see it at a matinee-- don't pay $10+.
