"Mrs Henderson Presents" Review

The Professor gives it an A-

IMDB.com plot summary: Laura Henderson (Judi Dench) buys an old London theater and opens it up as the Windmill, a performance hall which goes down in history for, among other things, its all-nude revues.

It has great comic performances by Judi Dench and Bob Hoskins. Dench's Mrs Henderson is upper class, crusty and eccentric; Hoskins' Van Damme is lower class, crusty, and eccentric; sparks therefore fly. It has good old-fashioned British surviving-the-blitz sentimentality. It has naked ladies. It even (briefly) has naked gentlemen, too.

What's not to like?

Well, for one, I was rather uncomfortable with the implications of a woman running a nudie review; Dench's character was far more sympathetic with her customers than with her employees.

But truly, that only occurred to me afterwards. While watching it, it's an entertaining romp with lots of British-style humor. Not quite as carefree a romp as "Wallace and Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit," but then, not intended for the kiddies either. On the whole, a thumbs-up.
