History of Motion Pictures Recap

If you follow my blog, you know that I took History of Motion Pictures this term because I knew it was going to be a b*!!-busting term at work, and a production class was right out. In many ways I regret this decision; it's meant little contact with other would-be filmmakers, although NaNoWriMo made up for some of that. I've felt isolated from a community I was just beginning to feel part of.

Nevertheless, there have been some bright spots; films that are seldom seen, even on late night cable. Two that stick in the mind are:
"Metropolis", Fritz Lang
Still entertaining, even with the missing parts (yeah, parts are missing, blast it) being covered by narrative intertitles. I plan on renting the anime remake for comparison Real Soon Now.
"Open City", Rossellini
An Italian post-WWII classic (just barely "post"; it was filmed partly during German occupation of Rome)

Definitely worth renting from Netflix or your local esoteric DVD rental establishment.
