[taps twice] Er... is this thing on?

I'm back. I think.

I still have NaNoWriMo as a to-do in the Infinite To-Do list.

My spirits dropped right along with my retirement accounts in November and are just beginning to perk up.

Still working at Major HMO. Still "temp" after two years. Have moved up to data analyst from secretaryhood -- a major improvement. And after today's "staff reduction" announcement (which did not, thankfully, include me) a direct position, after all, may be no shield even there.

If I could retire, I would.

I will be gradually moving this blog somewhere else. I'm not sure where; but iBlog is getting creaky. I will let y'all know.

The Lesson of the NaNoWriMo

Don't stop.

Don't ever stop.

If you stop, it gains on you.

Never, ever, ever stop. Genius doesn't matter. Perfection is an illusion. All that matters is the doing.

Goal reached before bed: 12334 words.

Goal before the next bedtime: 14427 words.

Food for Thought

The following article by Paul B. Farrell describes well a conclusion I'd arrived at independently:
Wall Street's 'Disaster Capitalism for Dummies'
14 reasons Main Street loses big while Wall Street sabotages democracy
It's hard to get cranked about election results, although I will vote -- for every office on my ballot which sports a candidate who is neither Democrat nor Republican. Anything but what we've got. And yeah, I AM going to write in Mickey Mouse for any office in which I don't have a REAL choice.

Anything but what we got, folks. Anything. It's time to trash the "two-party system" -- there's nothing sacred about it and other republics seem to get along just fine with twenty parties and plenty of REAL debate.

[On the lighter side, I'll be twittering from Santa Barbara today. Ta-ta!]

Breathing Again

...at least at 75%.

How about that bailout, folks? Really perked up the ol' market, huh?

My congressman (Howard Berman) voted for it. Twice. And yes, I did contact his office. I believe many of my fellow NoHo residents did as well. No dice.

To add insult to injury, he's running for re-election unopposed.

Hey, North Hollywood! How about we all agree to write in Mickey Mouse on our ballots? At least we'd KNOW he was a cartoon...

Bailout Alternatives... Not Considered

This Glen Greenwald article:

Wash Post's Pearlstein: Anyone opposing the bailout is ignorant

has a lot of alternative views on the bailout -- that have not been considered.

Note to self: Am not 16 any more...

Went to Neil Diamond concert at Hollywood Bowl with Hubby. It was nostalgic, energetic, musically interesting, and I boogied like 1969.

Am dehydrated; further, knees and shoulder are busy informing me just how foolish it was to boogie like 1969.

I will be heading for bed with a double dose of naproxen and ice packs... but still...

It was worth it.

Good grief.

Ye gods, what a day.

First, the USA Congress (House of Representatives, to be more precise) develops a backbone.

Then the stock market goes nuts, sulking like a massive crybaby.

Brother, Can You Spare $1... trillion?

I may yet have to start a political topic in this blog... Here is a scathing little piece of satire from Angry Bear:

Update 9/15/2008

What's been happening:
  • The hiking pants that I notoriously could not zip in July now zip. They don't fit WELL, not exactly, but they do zip.
  • The fall semester has started, and although I've cut way back on tutoring and teaching, it's still taking some time from my life...
  • As well, Younger Son is back in classes, and needs logistical if not financial support (he is still without motorcycle.)
Gotta run...
