Artist's Date Friday et. al.
I still keep up with
these...
...but funds are limited. As is energy. So
yesterday's A.D. consisted of a latte at a local espresso den and an evening of
watching (again! but always watchable) "LOTR: Return of the King (Extended
Edition)"
I now no longer have that
petulant, "You never let me have any fun" feeling. Unwise from a viewpoint of
sleep deprivation, though.
My sleep
patterns have been slipping again. I was getting angry with myself about it,
then realized that I ran out of SAM-e two days
ago.
Oh. Yeah. Damn.
Doggie issues: Lady Dog finally went in
for her liver biopsy Wednesday. The preliminary ultrasound showed no liver
disease despite the elevated enzymes, so they didn't do the biopsy after all.
Yay!
It doesn't mean there is no liver
disease, just that there's no spot they can find that is cancerous-looking. But
that's the good news.
The bad news is
that her kidneys are about half normal size.
Yes, she's heading for renal failure;
her life span now is measured in months rather than years. In a way, we're lucky
that we went in for the ultrasound, as this is something that wouldn't be shown
on tests until actual renal failure was occurring. This is something that can't
be reversed, and is a very common way for an older animal to depart... in short,
it's not that there's nothing wrong with her liver, just that her kidneys will
get her first.
So, we've got her on the
easiest-on-the-kidneys doggie diet there is (which otherwise wouldn't have
happened) which may slow the progress of failure. The vet is also checking for
possible long-term low-grade infection. If such is present (and it may not be),
putting her on long-term antibiotics may slow deterioration further, but again
won't stop or reverse it.
Right now,
she's showing no symptoms. I'm trying to make her doggie life as enjoyable as
possible... and accept the fact that she'll be leaving. Too soon.
