Update, 9/28/08

Let's see:
  • I've lost 22 pounds. That's 77,000 calories. Of that, only 1 or 2 pounds is loss of lean body mass, and contrary to conventional wisdom, I didn't have to exercise daily at the "fat burning" level to achieve that. I REALLY like the Zone diet.
  • When my ability to control my eating was compromised in late August, I took to plotting my calorie intake on an exponential moving average plot rather like the one for weight in Hacker's Diet. This enabled me to look at my eating a more objectively and has helped me to bring it back under control.
  • Still, I don't just overeat, I under-exercise and I know that. Hacker's Diet points out properly that food control alone will do the weight loss job, but I'd like to be able to hike again. You'll see on my month chart when I publish it:
    • I'm tracking my Intu-flow (1 "rung" while I'm still learning moves in a level, and 2 once I've learned them all and am mastering a level. That means a possible 8 rungs for Intu-flow.
    • Also, I'm tracking 20 minutes or more in an aerobic exercise (walking or biking, for now) as 1 rung (i.e., 1 rung for 25 minutes, 2 for 50 minutes, etc.)
    • When I start a strength training program, I'll track that, too.
    • I have some repetitive stress issues, old injury issues, and rheumatoid arthritis going as well. The Zone Diet has enabled me to cut back my NSAID use, but I really wrecked stressed joints with the Hacker's Diet rung system. Hence, I'll be going SSLLOOWW on the Intu-flow program - no need to risk that again.
Off to the Los Angeles County Fair today! Plenty of walking to record....

9/29/08: Oops, forgot to publish this yesterday... more later. SFL
