US Senate Passes Stem Cell Bill

Friday, 2007-04-13; 01:05:00

The senate voted on Wednesday to pass a stem cell bill that removes some of the restrictions that were placed on the funding of stem-cell research in 2001. The good news is that it seems to be fairly bipartisan, garnering a 63 votes in favor and just 24 against, and the bill has already passed the house where it got 253 votes for and 174 against. The bad news is that the President has vowed to veto this legislation again, which would be only the second veto of his entire presidency, and the numbers currently don't bode well for overriding the veto. (The first and as of yet only presidential veto by Bush was for similar stem cell legislation passed in July of last year.)
