São Paulo, Brazil: "Advertising, GTFO!"

Wednesday, 2007-06-20; 01:09:00

Apparently, São Paulo in Brazil has recently passed a law that prohibits almost all forms of advertising in the city. This includes billboards, ads on vehicles, and it even places size restrictions on ads in shopfronts!

Oh how I would love a city like that.

Apparently, the new law is making the city a sort of billboard cemetery, because people aren't sure whether this law will stick or not. So billboards are being left up, but they remain empty. Some people are noticing buildings they didn't know were there, while others are complaining that the advertising law draws attention to other negative aspects of the city that are now more prominent.

Still, no advertising? Count me in.
