Hole in Ozone Layer Sets Record in 2006

Due to colder than usual temperatures over the continent of Antarctica, the hole in the ozone layer has reached a record this month not only in lateral extent, but also the severity of the ozone depletion. This is not entirely surprising -- annual variations in the ozone hole were expected to far eclipse the healing trend. According to NASA, the ozone hole is expected to completely recover by 2065.
