Harry Potter and the Death of Reading

Ron Charles pens a great article in the Washington Post regarding Harry Potter and how the quality of books that Americans are reading is in decline. I haven't looked at any of the recent Harry Potter books, but I did have a few pages of one of the earlier books read to me, and it didn't seem to be anything special.

Admittedly, I don't read too many novels or books myself, but when I do, it's much more interesting than witches in a fantasy novel (recent recommendations: The Name of the Rose, by Umberto Eco, or The God Delusion, by Richard Dawkins). I also tend to read a lot of periodicals (recommendations: The Nation, Science News, your local newspaper) and articles on the internet (recommendations: since you're reading Linkable Supernova, you've already been linked to hundreds of good articles on the internet), so it's not exactly fair to say that I don't read anything.

(Oops, did I use the wrong link above? Sorry, here's the real one. ;) Now that I saved you the trouble, go read a real book.)
