Places in the Tokyo/Kanto Area
[Chiba] [Inage] [Kichijoji] [Shinjuku] [Shibuya] [Harajuku] [Yokohama] [Asakusa/Ueno][Ikebukuro] [Other places]
Kanto means "east of the border" and these days exists simply as the opposite of Kansai (west of the border - the Osaka-Kyoto region) since the borders are all long gone, although there are distinct cultural differences between the two regions. For me, therefore, in a sense Kanto describes all the places I can get to and from within a day and as a result many of them have become the places where I live out my daily life. So here they all are, complete with a map of the area (when I have time to put it in) to give you a bit of spatial awareness. The Kanto region comprises the prefectures of Tokyo, Kanagawa (which includes Yokohama), Chiba, Saitama, Ibaraki, Yamanashi, Tochigi and Gumma although I only really ever spend time in the first four.
