Thanks for all your responses.

I received 3 votes for number 1, one vote for number 3, and 2 other suggestions.  See below.
I think I favour the method of adding an extra menu pick to the TABLE STORE menu (as the user would have to navigate to this menu anyway), but not to add a toolbar button which takes up valuable screen real-estate.

Thanks,
Simon Toon.

You could place them into Pro/PDM or Intralink and allow the dependencies relations to check them into your working area when required. If you need to place on for the first time Intralink will allow you to go directly into common space and use it. Unfortunately Pro/PDM does not allow this. I would think that Matrix would offer some sort of solution to this.

The tables, formats and models should all be under revision control as the all effect the face of your drawings.

I hope this is of some use to you.

You can also use the 'Start Model Directory' from the pull-down list.  This options seems to be valid during most operations, which is why I chose it.  I have tables, sections, start models, and symbols stored in this folder.

In 2000i and before, I add a pick to the Table, Save/Retrieve menu called Default Tables (using menu_def.pro). That pick runs a sequence of commands that selects Table, Retrieve, and browses to the default table location. The users generally don't know it's not a standard pick. I don't know where the menu went in 2001, but if it's in the drop-downs, I'd just make a mapkey and add a pick to the dropdown.

#3 works good.

I access my default table directory by adding a selection to the Table, Save/Retrieve menu. This is done through the menu_def.pro file that is in the loadpoint\text directory. Here are the commands I use:

@setbutton TABLE#STORE KTC#TABLES "#RETRIEVE;~ Select `file_open` `Ph_path.Path`1  `L:`;\ ~ Activate `file_open`  Ph_list.Filelist`1  `prolib`;\ ~ Activate `file_open` `Ph_list.Filelist`1  `engtable`;"\  "Load Key Tronic Tables."

The tables are located on a network drive that is mounted as "L:", in the subdirectory prolib\engtable. This command gives me a dialog box that lists all the tables that I have available. This is working in 2000i, 2000i2, and appears to also work in 2001.

As I understand, PTC has no setting for finding a table path in the config.pro. I don't remember it in the past either.
We don't store .dtl files, UDFs, symbols, notes, or tables in the PDM system. We do use a central location for all to use.

For the tables we created an icon that appears on the detailing tool bar.

When the icon is selected, the mapkeys will open the "$PROES/detailing/tables" directory.

I hope this helps.
