My Portfolio of Major Projects. This is a brief
overview of the largest projects I have been involved with and
personally responsible for.
Working with The Walt Disney Company, I lead the Systems and Operations team of ABC Enhanced
Television, transforming an ailing real-time web production network into an industry-leading
program synchronous interactive television system. I further played a major role in the design and
development of single-screen on-air interactive television. Our engineering team won an
Emmy® Award
for Outstanding Achievement in Advanced Media Technology for the Creation of Video Games for our
work on the Jetix Interactive Gaming System.
I created several internal solutions for IBM,
including a Linux-based Token Ring to Ethernet Bridge and a Remote
Software Inventory system which queried hundreds of remote servers, and
gathered information on installed software packages, version information,
and OS patches. As well, I was responsible for third-tier support of
corporate accounts including: Sony, Delphion, Chase Manhattan, Starwood
Hotels, The National Basketball Assosiation, and many other large
clients.
JavaScripts.com I helped to create the very first
version of JavaScripts.com
back in 1997, and it soon grew in popularity to consist of over eight
thousand unique JavaScripts, and six hundred thousand registered
technical professionals. The site was acquired by EarthWeb Incorporated
in 1998, and I personally reprogrammed the site to coexist with EarthWeb's
Corporate Image, as well as oversaw the migration from Cold Fusion under
Windows, to a Solaris and Oracle based solution. JavaScripts.com was once
the largest production website using the Cold Fusion Application Server.
The current incarnation of the site is a DTD/XML spinoff produced by
Internet.com after Earthweb was acquired. You can still find a few zillion
Simba says Roar taglines scattered about the web, which were
a result of this site.
Linux.com was a community
venture by VA Linux Systems (a.k.a VA Research, VA Software, etc)
designed to be a one stop information warehouse for the various operating
systems based on the Linux Kernel. I put about two years of spare time
into the site, beginning as a technical content writer, and then moving
on to managing the FirstStep, and later the Sysadmin sections of the site
with a few dozen technical writers under me. Some time later, after VA
removed themselves from the Linux arena, the site was spun off into a
NewsForge portal.
Developer.com was EarthWeb's flagship IT resource site,
responsible for a large chunk of their advertising revenues. I was tasked
with the creation of hundreds of resource lists, each comprised of 200
plus tutorials, examples, samples and various technical information for a
vast array of IT information.
FatCow Web Hosting was another venture by Clickhere!
which I was involved with. It began life in 1997 as the first ever
Unlimited (storage space) Web Hosting Provider. While most companies were
charging per megabyte storage and data transfer fees, we gave birth to
the first truely Unlimited hosting solution. I was personally responsible
for programming and support of the CGI/Perl systems and support of each.
I wrote more perl on this one than I can honestly remember.
