| The patented Shur Farms S.I.S. Frost Protection System selectively drains only the coldest air layer from the orchard floor, expelling it upward 300 feet, where it is dispersed into the inversion layer. The warmer air can then move down and replace the cold air. The S.I.S. unit is a mechanical device consisting of a vertical shaft with blades spinning horizontally, parallel to the orchard floor. It may be used alone, along with "artificial dams & diversions,"to channel cold air flows and drain cold air build-up, or with other frost protection methods (wind machines, sprinklers, heaters, etc.) to maximize their benefits. |
