We visited Ireland for a month, from early June to early July 2008. We took our tent and
camping gear, rented a car and circled the island. We camped throughout the trip, with the
exception of two nights in a castle to celebrate our 40th anniversary and 2 nights at the end
so that we could avoid predicted heavy rains, pack up dry and catch an early morning flight
back home.
Those who are very familiar with Ireland will note that we missed a great many attractions. A
month is not nearly enough to see the country. We are pragmatic travellers - if the
opportunity presents itself, if the attraction is interesting to us and we have enough time, we
take it in. And then there is the weather! We certainly didn't let rain stop us. Many of the
pictures were taken in the rain; however, we must admit that rain had an effect on what we
saw.
A word about rain...... We expected rain and we're experienced at pitching and taking down
our tent in the rain. In Ireland, don't let the rain stop you. The old saying for such maritime
climates is that if you don't like the weather, wait a few minutes and it will change.
