ARTICLE I --STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

The purpose of this association will be to further the interests of home education of children by their parents by all lawful means, including, but not limited to, support of and assistance to members of the association who are educating their own children at home, dissemination of legislative and other information affecting the rights of parents to direct the education and upbringing of their children, participation in and sponsorship of conventions and educational seminars for teaching parents, organization of field trips and extracurricular activities for members of the association.

STATEMENT OF BELIEF

Preface

Our statement of belief includes only those truths contained within the Bible. It concerns the Person and work of Jesus Christ (the Gospel) as revealed in Scripture. It is the faith once delivered to the saints (Jude 2, Eph. 4:5) which distinguishes believers from nonbelievers.

Statement

1. We believe in the Bible as the inspired, inerrant, and infallible Word of God, our guide for daily living.

2. We believe in one living and true God, maker of heaven and earth; one in essence but eternally subsistent in three Persons; Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

3. We believe in the fall of man; although originally created in the image of God, through the disobedience of Adam, man fell into a sinful and spiritually impotent state, totally unable to justify himself before God.

4. We believe the Jesus Christ is the Son of God; that He became man without sin, being conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of a virgin; that He was crucified, died, was buried; risen again and ascended to the Father where he sits to make intercession for us.

5. We believe in the forgiveness of sins made possible by Christ's death and resurrection; and that it is God's plan that whosoever come should be saved (John 3:16).

6. We believe in The Holy Spirit as our comforter, teacher, and guide, until the day that Christ shall return with a shout and take his children home, to life everlasting. Amen

7. We believe that the Bible commands that we should "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it" (Proverbs 22:6)

8. We believe that it is our Constitutional right to home school our children.

STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES

We believe that it is the parents' responsibility to be in compliance with the state regulations regarding home schools. West Alabama Home School Association is a vehicle to allow support for those families that have made the commitment to home school and meet the state requirements. West Alabama Home School Association is not responsible for the education of children.

We believe that it is the parents' responsibility to maintain control over and discipline their own children during any West Alabama Home School Association gathering, field trip, etc. Failure to exercise this responsibility endangers others' rights to enjoy, be educated by, and benefit from West Alabama Home School Association activities.

As silent spokesman for all homeschoolers, our conduct must represent to society that homeschoolers take seriously their God mandated responsibilities. We believe that the actions of a few could possibly have legal repercussions for all, so we would ask each to uphold their responsibilities to all other homeschoolers in this way.
