Small Quilts

9 Lives Quilt One of my aunts visited England and brought me back a souvenir tea towel with nine cats on it. It was cute, and I felt it deserved better than wiping up spills, so I cut the cats out, appliqued them onto a plain light tan fabric and made this quilt (if I find a photo of the front, you'll see embroidered the names of various cats we've known). But before I could entirely finish, hurricane Andrew hit South Florida. We were without electricity for a week, during which time I hand bound the quilt. I was grateful that we hadn't lost anything more than a tree and the contents of our refrigerator, so I inscribed the quilt, 'Andrew spared us, Cats have 9 Lives, August 29, 1992. I found the quilt and took photos of it today (Nov.17, 2003). In order to get enough detail so you have a chance of reading the cats' names, I had to save it as 172k and 88k, so I've put the two Cats Have 9-Lives photos on a separate page.
Racecar quilt
This is a very simple quilt, made for a little boy's bed in May of 2000. I quilted all around the cars, and the boxes, but felt it didn't really need any more embellishment.
Irish hearts quilt I gave this quilt to my mother in Christmas of 1990. The quilt block pattern is Double Irish Chain, and adding the appliqued hearts made it an Irish Hearts quilt.
I just took the photo November 15, 2003 so the colors aren't as bright as when it was new. The off-white areas were originally pure white.
