Other Bears
|
This photo was taken in August of 1995. The bear is made from recycled mink and rabbit with a recycled lace collar. The pillow is embroided from a sketch I did of my first cat, Ginger. She liked to sleep curled up in the cover of my portable typewriter. |
This photo was taken in March of 1990, while Berr Avon was still trying to find his true identity. He hired Sherlock Holmes and Charlie Chan to help him, but when they told him he was a Mexican revolutionary, he was more confused than ever. |
March of 1990. Panda made from a commercial pattern by Simplicity. He looked good, but he didn't balance well. I like a bear who can stand on his own two paws. |
This photo was taken in Christmas of 1991. Robin Wood was probably
made in 1986 or thereabouts. My mother made a lot of Paddington
Bears from a commercial Paddington Bear pattern including Robin (the only
black one). I liked him so mom gave him to me. He later got a black ostrich
feather and a scarf I'd knitted for a Dr. Who sock doll. Then he picked
up a set of wings from National Airlines and a button from Pan Am when
it took over National. |
I find it embarrassing to look at this photo, because Berr Avon has been wearing clothes for so many years now that he looks naked in this Christmas of 1991 photo. |
The Simplicity pattern did have cute ideas. I thought sewing a 'queue' into his hat was fun, and making 'frogs' for his jacket. |
Val Toreth is from an original series of stories. He's a tough guy. You
don't want to get him mad at you. But he's so handsome you quite forgive
him. Particularly when he's wearing his dinner jacket. |

Holmes found himself baby-sitting this little girl-bear made of corduroy
one day. He read her his monograph on analyzing personality types from the
way they ate their bread and honey. She thought the story was very interesting,
even though she fell asleep after five minutes and had sweet dreams. |
