Antonio Banderas Bears
(well, they are meant to remind you of him in various of his roles) |
This photo was taken in August of 2000. He is Ahmed, from Mr.
Banderas' role in The Thirteenth Warrior. |
Here Ahmed shows his fortitude, facing down Foxy (who loves to get in my outdoor photos.) |
This bear is Nestor, from Mambo Kings. Photo taken in August
of 2000. |
Nestor has an implanted recording of a trumpet solo he played in the
movie. Press him and he plays. |
Photo taken in April of 2000. This is Tony Ramirez from the movie
Never Talk to Strangers. It was interesting figuring out how to give a teddy bear a long 'ponytail' of 'hair'. He also has a silver-colored button sewn on to look like the ring Mr. Banderas wore in them movie. |
|
This is Ricky, from Tie Me Up, Tie Me Down. Yes, he does
have a pair of handcuffs hanging out of his back pocket. Photo taken in
August of 2000. That was a busy bear-making month! It helped that
they were all supposed to be the same person, so I didn't have to redesign
the body pattern. |
This is Che, from Evita. Photo taken in January of 2000. A bear
always looks good in a tux. |
|
This is also Ahmed, from The Thirteenth Warrior, but he has much more detailed costuming, and is a larger bear, than the earlier version. These photos were all taken October 3rd, 2003. Foxy is inspecting him to make sure he has a sufficiency of cat hairs on his clothes. |
Ahmed's sword is made from Sculpy oven-bake clay. I'd never tried anything like that before, but it turned out remarkably well- I was even able to 'sharpen' it after it cooled and the clay retained enough flexibility to add to the illusion of metal. The 'garnets' are red glass seed beads, and the pink cabochon 'gem' in the pommel is also Sculpy. Ahmed has elastic covered in paw-pad material across his palms, and that worked out well too. |
