Assorted Wallhanging Quilts
|
This was made in December of 1994 from a purchased pattern which I modified
slightly. The background fabric was a mis-print, in which the dye became
progressively lighter as it went down. It's a hand- appliqued quilt, which
I find tedious, preferring to machine-piece.The tiny quilt to the right (it's being held by clothes-pins, just visible to either side, which will give you an idea of the size) was a foundation-pieced kit, so all I did was supply the labor. |

.Made in December of 1994, this Santas and Trees quilt is very simple,
so I embellished it with metal stars in the trees and pom-pon noses on the
Santas. The trees quilt photographed in February of 2002, is older, but I'm not sure how much. Each print in the trees is a Christmas print with small Christmas motifs. The ground is a print full of forest animals, foxes and bunnies, and the like. The background fabric is a green-dotted white print. (I often use small prints in place of solid colors to add visual texture.) |

Here I am in the photo to the right. This gives you a better idea of the size of the Pony Arcade Wallhangings. They have buttons for eyes and just enough quilting to outline them and emphasize the long muscle running through a horse's neck. |

Both these small foundation pieced lighthouse quilts were made in December
of 1999 from kits purchased at the only quilt show I've ever attended. The
temptation was fierce, as I was surrounded by books, fabrics, tools, clubs
to join, etc I got away lightly by only buying these two kits, one book and
a few small packets of interesting fabrics. |

This is an applique design, totally my own creation. It was a request from
someone who wanted a hanged men wall hanging for Halloween.I thought it turned out quite well, dramatic and spooky. Some of the background fabrics include metallic ink, which adds a nice touch of glitter. I think the fabric on the back is a dark purplish print with black trees and bats and small white moons. I don't show the backs of most quilts, but I tend to use cotton prints on the back, rather than the traditional off-white muslin. It's no more work, doesn't cost much more, and it adds to the fun. |
Both of these very small wall hangings were made in December of 1999, following
Foundation Pieced patterns from the book I bought at the above- mentioned
quilt show. The hearts each hold something a person might love. There are
'conversation' prints on every conceivable subject. |
I had fun choosing the fabrics for this one. The cardinal bird has decorated his house for Christmas, and has chickadees sitting on the roof. |
