Animal Themed Wallhanging Quilts
|
Experimenting with a newly learned technique- Foundation Piecing, I made
a whole herd of horse-head blocks in February of 1996. They were like popcorn,
I couldn't make just one. This arrangement reminded me of a vending machine,
which reminded me of the old Penny Arcades full of varied machines, so I
call them Pony Arcade Quilts. |

Here I am in the photo to the right. This gives you a better idea of the size of the Pony Arcade Wallhangings. They have buttons for eyes and just enough quilting to outline them and emphasize the long muscle running through a horse's neck. |

| The two quilts above are both Foundation pieced, and
quite small- I think the owl blocks to the left (made in December of 1996)
were about 4 inches across, and the ones on the right (made in July of 1995)
even narrower. |
Made in September of 1993, I hadn't yet heard of Foundation Piecing, so I
designed this quilt using individual templates for each piece, and sewed
them in the traditional way. Each cloud is hand-quilted around, and each
heart-shape is hand-quilted around. |
This is foundation pieced in September of 1995. It's faster, and you can have very small pieces of fabric in the design. The eyes are all tiny buttons. |
