In January of 1979, for some reason the Budweiser Clydesdales visited a local shopping center, Palm Springs Mile. They pulled up in huge trucks, unloaded the horses and gear and then spent about an hour fiddling about before they finished harnessing the horses. These horses have presence. They were very patient, more so than the prospective audience, most of whom gave up after half an hour and left. |
| I suspect they were on their way
to some event, or at least a bigger audience (at most there were a dozen
folk watching.) But since there was a stable in the area (Hialeah Race Track,
long since shut down.) they may have stopped there for the night, and then
thought they'd let the horses stretch their legs a bit. |
| It wasn't much exercise. They went around the parking lot about three times. |
| Bud the dog (we were told they always
have a Dalmation named Bud as a mascot) was perfectly trained. The moment
the wagon started he barked, a steady, businesslike 'woof, woof, woof, woof'
the whole time the wagon moved. |
| Joe at Sampson's Ranch- this may
have been the same day in 1979 as pictures on Album 8. Then again, it may
be in 1978. I'd visited the ranch a few times while Leslie kept her horse,
Lucky Buck, there. |
Leslie owned this pinto pony, Lady, too. And she had another pony, but I don't recall his name- couldn't find a photo of him. Lady was prettier, anyway. Lucky Buck------> was a nice horse. He was a racehorse, and Leslie had ridden him in barrel races a lot. He was not fun to ride at the trot though. Bounce, OUCH! Some horses are built for speed, not comfort. |

| In 1980 I got a few nice photos of DisneyWorld horses pulling trams on Main Street. I think this handsome fellow is a Belgian. Or possibly a Shire. |
| Same time, same place, possibly the same horse. Wish I could go back with my digital camera. The cost to develop film kept me from taking too many shots of any one subject so I didn't get many 'gems'. |
| This horse was much prettier than
this picture. Earlier in the day the crowds were too thick to get a photo
and it was nearly sunset by the time I got back to Main Street and saw my
chance. |
