Homestead Rodeo
Homestead Florida rodeo in 1980. I think the arena, stands, and buildings were later destroyed by a hurricane. I hope the palm trees survived, they were really nice.

Homestead Rodeo
The bucking horse contest was fun, too, but I didn't get any pictures good enough to share with the world.

Thailand Pony
1980- in Thailand outside the Thai Cultural Center (tourist trap). Unfortunately we arrived during the rainy season, so the bus slogged through the mud so slow we missed nearly all the show. Mom and dad also went on another tour that I begged off of. I didn't really want to see the Temple of the Submerged Buddha (not its official title, but there was so much water around it, mom told me later they offered to have a little boy pull her to the temple on his cart.)
The hotel we stayed at was lovely- the Siam Intercontinental. It's the only hotel I've heard of that has its own zoo. Pictures from the zoo will be found on another page in this collection.

Renaissance Faire
The Renaissance Faire held at Vizcaya (an old mansion and grounds in South Florida and a wonderfully baroque setting for this) in 1982 had this lovely combination of girl and horse at the entrance, sort of a living welcome sign.

I think her horse is an appaloosa, but it might be a large Pony of the Americas.

They had jousting, too, but somehow I missed it. Pity.

Burt Reynolds horses
Burt Reynold's ranch in Jupiter, Florida in 1982. He had a dinner theatre there, too. I expect that's all gone now.

These were young thoroughbreds, yearlings I think, although they might have been 2 year olds.

Mini horse
Somewhere I have a photo of a baby miniature horse that I took at Mr. Reynold's ranch, but I haven't found it yet.

This miniature horse was  at a short-lived attraction not too terribly far from my home, in 1983 (or maybe 1982.)

It was brand-new and spotless when we saw it, but there were so few customers I didn't expect them to stay in business.

They certainly tried hard to entertain with a variety of things.

Several of the horses went down a ramp and swam about in a pool for exercise.

It was a hot day. I wished at the time I could have gone in, too.
Mini horse
They seemed to enjoy it. They weren't being dragged around by the halters, just given guidance.

Wouldn't they make wonderful bath toys?
