Way Out West Here are the pictures from our big trip out West! This is where we stayed in Perth ... it's the only picture we took there which is not to say it isn't a pretty place, it's just that we didn't find much we wanted to photograph! <<< Here's the only "we couldn't find anyone to take our picture here" shot - us peering into the Freemantle Maritime Museum ... Skinny and checkered lighthouse in bustling Bunbury >>> Seeing as how we live near the most Easterly point of (mainland) Australia, we thought it only fitting that we be seen at the Cape Naturaliste, the most South-Westerly ... ... yum, yum ... pig's bum ..... Most Unusual Vehicle Award goes to this customised Rolls Royce Ute! Western Australia's premier wine region is jam-packed with gastronomic delights ... ... and the wine can't flow soon enough for some ... ... usually, you'll find wine experts hard at work ... ... but not today! Some of Western Australia's richest treasures are "buried" deep underground. One of the more unusual sights on the way - camels grazing just outside of Ravensbourne. ... the quickest way to get all the bugs off the windscreen! This is the SuperPit open-pit gold mine in Kalgoorlie. Whilst a picture really cannot convey the sheer scale of the operation, in the shot above the vehicle in the foreground is a 60 tonne truck and the white dot behind it is a Toyota Land Cruiser! In addition to the gold mine, pubs and bordellos of Kalgoorlie, the Western Australian Royal Flying Doctors Service also has a base here. Barely an hour north of Perth is the town of New Norcia. Originally established as an mission, the town is owned and run by an order of Benedictine monks. St Gertrudes, originally a girls' school. St Ildephonsus, the boys' school. The Monastery gate. |
