The end of this blog as we know it is nigh
On Maundy Thursday, I received a letter from The
Mobile Me Team, that is to say, from the people who manage what used to be
called Dot Mac and is now Mobile
Me:Dear MobileMe member:
On July 7, 2009, the .Mac HomePage web application will be discontinued. As of this date, you will no longer be able to create new pages or edit existing pages using HomePage. Any pages you've already published will remain live at their current web address for as long as you like. If you need to make changes to your existing pages, please do so before July 7.
Instead of HomePage, we recommend the other sharing features of your MobileMe membership. etc etc etc. ... We apologize for any inconvenience blah blah... For more information yada yada ... So
I've got three months to consider my options. I've had my troubles with iBlog,
but I know my way around it and it's how I learned about blogging. A year or so
ago, when iBlog's sole begetter Sarat folded his tent, tried and failed to
provide his customers with a transition to another platform, and went on to
other things, I decided to stick with it, at least until the next time it died
on me -- as had happened only once before. At that point, the poor thing would
just have to stay dead. But Thursday's news from Mobile Me, complete with
crocodile apology ('I apologise for any inconvenience caused by my ending your
life ...'), means I may have to be more proactive. I found a forum for iBlog survivors, with the topics
'Stand by your iBlog' and 'How to escape from iBlog', but talk there of Mysql
and scripting and codes makes me think I'll just have to leave this blog behind
and start up a new one elsewhere.

About this Blog
This started out as a patchy journal about family life with my mother-in-law, Mollie, who has Alzheimers and was then living with us. Mollie has moved, first into a "low-care facility" then, in July 2004, into a nursing home. As these and other events have overtaken us, the blog has moved on ...
A note on comments: You can read comments on the same page as the entry rather than in a pop-up window, by clicking on the category button ("Mollie" etc) at the end of the entry and then on the "Read more" button.
