Collecting the mail

Most of my letters these days come by way of the interminalnets, and the letterbox out in the street is mainly a receptacle for bills and advertising gumf. Today, then, was a spectacular departure from the norm. There were one or two letters from people like American Express, and then:
the new issue of Heat
the ditto of The Quarterly Essay -- Kate Jennings on the US election and the economic crisis as seen in Wall Street
the ditto of The Monthly
yet another ditto, The Walkley (which comes with my union membership)
Ursula K Le Guin's The Left Hand of Darkness, from the Philippines via Bookmooch
Richard Grant's Views from the Oldest House, from Finland ditto.

I hope Ainsley doesn't bail me up with another plastic bag full of books any time soon.
