I nearly sent money
I've just received this email from one of my
nieces:.....X-Originating-IP: [216.226.67.174]
Hi, i'm in a hurry writing this mail. I had a trip to Nigeria visiting the Tinapa opening ceremony. Unfortunately all my money has been stolen at the hotel where I stayed, by some armed robbers and since then I'v been without any money and I'm even owing money to the hotel here. So I have only access to my emails,my mobile phone can't work here so I didn't bother bringing it along.
Please can you lend me $780 USD so I can return back and settle the hotel bills I will return it back to you as soon as i get home. You can have it sent through western union to the below information:
Name: Xxx Xxxxxxxxx Xxxxx
Address: 20 xxxxx Road
City: Surulere
State: Lagos
Country: Nigeria
Postal Code: 23401
I have already spoken to the hotel manager, please let me hear from you if you can send the money tomorrow please or if possible today. I am waiting for your reply
Thank you.
Xxx Xxxxxxxxx Xxxxx.
As my fingers were already moving to
the keyboard to type in my bank URL, my mind
went:1. Why did she write to us instead of
her parents?2. Why would she have signed
with her full name. I'd forgotten her middle name was
Xxxxxxxxx.3. 'I am waiting for your reply'.
That doesn't sound like her!4. Surely her
employer wouldn't have sent her to cover something in
Nigeria?5. NIGERIA!
