SxS 2007

It's Sculpture by the Sea time again, and once again the wind is threatening to turn some of the taller thinner sculptures into projectiles and hurl them at the blocks of flats just inland from the Bondi cliffs. Penny and I will probably be strolling more than once through what must be the most spectacular sculpture gallery of all time, and for easons that will become clear I will probably blog about it again in a week or so. But our first visit, last Friday, was before the weather turned blowy.

Here's Penny reflected in one piece:

And me in another:

I liked this Easter Island head made from recycled metal:

Penny was keen on this wooden mosaic car tepee:

Here's one that inhabits the environment well:

This, 'Recommissioned' by our young neighbour Jesse Cox, is an installation in which showers produce a soundscape of Bondi's history instead of water. There's a fourth one near the beach at Tamarama: I saw a man washing his feet at a tap next to it, apparently one of many swimmers who thought it was a normal shower that had survived the recent water-saving decommissioning. My elder son, Alex, was the sound technician, and on our next visit I'll have another go at videoing some of it. I'll also take a photo of the Amstel bar, which my younger son, Liam, designed, but which I couldn't find on this trip.
