Avuncular promotional notice

This isn't up on the Gleebooks site yet, but Seven Seasons in Aurukun, an Allen & Unwin book written by my fabulous niece Paula Shaw, will be launched Upstairs @ 49 (as they say in the Gleaner) on Monday the 2nd of March, 6pm for a 6.30 start, all done by about 7.30. If you promise to behave I'm sure you'd be welcome.

Dr David Martin, anthropologist and visiting fellow at the Centre for Aboriginal Economic Policy Research in Canberra will break the bottle across the book's bow.

The book was runner up for the Iremonger Award in 2007 -- the first time the judging panel have nominated a runner-up. In my humble opinion it's a marvellous book, but don't take the author's uncle's word for it. Professor Martin Mills, School of Education, The University of Queensland, is quoted on the Allen & Unwin site as saying: 'Seven Seasons in Aurukun is a must read for teachers, those committed to improving the state of Indigenous education in Australia, and for anyone who is interested in understanding the complexities of life in remote Australia.'

I'd add that it's funny and romantic, has an excellent dog, and almost features a walk-on by John W Howard.
