Bay Springs, Mississippi on the Tombigbee River Standing by the Whitton Lock.

Bay Springs our favorite spot on the Tombigbee River. The water color is dark forest green with a large dollop of blue. The water clear enough to see your toes when swimming. When we arrived yesterday, after traversing the ditch formed by one of the largest man made excavation projects ever attempted in the world, I went swimming. The water is getting pretty cold just now. This morning it is about 55 degrees outside.

Yesterday we talked with the COE, the Army Corp of Engineers to ensure the locks would all be open on time and we found they open Friday evening at 1800 hrs. Since it is too dangerous for most pleasure craft to travel after dark we will wait until 0600 hrs Sat. morning and see if we can be the first of several pleasure craft that will be down bound. Hopefully no tows will be coming up or going down yet since they have priority.

Later today I will transfer fuel out of our day tank to one of our four saddletanks. The day tank has a slow leak and drips into the bilge leaving a mess to be cleaned everyday. Something else to repair when we get back to Englewood.

We will also dive the bottom of the boat today, if the dive engine compressor for the Third Lung starts, check it for bottom yuckies sticking to the boat and check all the through hulls, struts, drive shaft (Cutless) bearings, and the propellers since we have hit a couple of fair size floating logs with at least the bottom of the boat and hopefully not the props.

We noticed another boat come in late and go to another finger of the many in this lake, we will go visit them later this morning and if they are nice we will volunteer to check their bottoms, (aw, come on, the bottom of the boat not theiroh never mind) and invite them over for afternoon libations that officially start any darn time we want them to startbut today happy hour will likely be at 1600 hrs when the sun is over the yardarm. Basically that means we have maintenance we would like to accomplish prior to making our run down hill.

We understand a cold front will be coming through on Sunday so hope we can put a little southern exposure between us and this colder north Alabama/Mississippi area. Our coming winter in the Florida Keys is looking better and better to us.
