more than a little spooky

OK. So, this is getting quite spooky. Today my husband called, woke me up, and told me that his Jeep had been broken into last night in the hotel parking lot, along with 8 other cars.

Not only did they smash in the driver's side front window, spraying glass everywhere, but they stripped it down of anything and everything valuable. His stereo that the kids got him for Christmas last year, his pool case with all of our pool cues and accessories, the air pressure jack that was his father's that has saved us many a time, all and I mean ALL of his tools that took him years to build up, and lastly his wallet, with all of our credit cards, his ID, and cash. He had no money this morning and no way of getting any money. He couldn't even vacuum out all the glass because they took all the coins from the ashtray! The only good thing is that it's not raining, which is weird for this time of year in the Pacific Northwest. He is despondent and inconsolable. So, I'm leaving him alone for a little while.

I went right to work calling the bank, the credit card companies, the credit agencies (to place a fraud alert on our accounts). I called our insurance company only to be reminded that we had taken comp and collision off to cut down our expenses. I called AAA and learned they don't cover this sort of thing. I called around to auto glass companies to get quotes on replacement and installation. Even with finding the window in a junk yard, here in Oregon and a place to install it, the best deal I found was actually a company called Safelite with centers all over the US. They will go to Greg with a new window, install it, vacuum all the glass and have it done today for $156.83. That would be good news except for the fact that we have little left in our bank account until the next paycheck, which doesn't come until a week from Monday. So, we're not sure where the money for food and gas will come from! We can't access our credit cards because the accounts were frozen until new cards are issued and we will get them in 10 days. So, we don't even have a plan to fall back on right now. (you could choose to help by donating using the button to the right!) To top it off, when I called to tell my daughter what happened, she's sick again! She had just started feeling better earlier this week after a 3 week stint of a sinus infection, and now today she is sick all over again and I can't send her to a doctor! That's when I broke down.

But that was short lived. Things like this happen to people all the time. I choose to not dwell on the negative stuff, but find the positives about it all. It's not raining and that's a really good thing for Greg who is without a window. We DO have enough money in our account to cover the window repair and get Greg home. Greg can go into a branch of our bank in Tacoma and have them look up his signature card so he could write a counter check and get some money. None of us has been diagnosed with a terminal or incurable disease. No one has been injured or involved in a car accident. No one has been attacked (though violated, yes) or arrested. We have no lawsuits against us. We all have a good relationship with each other, no fights, no affairs, no divorce. We still have a home (for now), warm clothes, food in the house. And we have the peace that passes understanding that comes from the Lord.
