a day in the life

Well, as I wrote this morning to my best friend who lives in Virginia Beach, " I don't have a job, am not building my business, don't have choir, don't have pool league, don't have boxes to start packing and don't have any money to go out!" This will go on for the rest of the week until Greg comes back home to help me get down boxes and come up with a plan for packing. I would start packing now, except that we're not moving for 5 weeks, and we don't know where we'll be living. So, it's rather impossible to know what to pack for storage and what to keep out for use until we know. So, my waking thought was, "what in the world do I do today?"

But, as I get going with my day, getting breakfast, doing my devotions, feeding the fish, I look around me and see plenty. This house could definitely use a good cleaning. And the garden plot needs to be prepped for winter (and for the new tenants). My nephews birthday is coming up, so I need to make him a card to get in the mail today, and there is ALWAYS something to do in the home office! Plus, there is always my craft project list I could tackle. I want to finish our Hawaii trip photo album, make some more custom birthday cards, bead a designed bracelet, and complete my knitted felted catch-all bag. I am getting a little pumped about it even as I write this!

Plus, I need to finish calling creditors about why we are late with our bills this month... not a fun task, but very necessary. We were able to successfully request and get approved a deferral for my car payment which REALLY helps! And as I think about it, dread, I need to get all my office supplies and FILES ready for packing or chucking. Gak. I do loathe going through files to decide what to keep and what to discard. Because I'm an occasional writer and teacher, I like to have a lot of resources of information at my fingertips. So, throwing out all calendars, brochures, magazines, etc is very hard for me to do.

But I've recently made a new friend (someone who started commenting on this site!) who has convinced me of the wisdom of downsizing and sloughing off unnecessary stuff. So, I'm starting to eye things with a different attitude. Do I really need that broken office chair I got from a previous employer that sits in the guest room (and matches perfectly I might add)? Are all those Star Wars figures and toys in the attic really going to go up in value and be sold at a great profit in a few years? How many gardening tools do I really need? When was the last time we used those plastic deck chairs? Do I really need that many books? OK. THAT'S IT! I've got to stop now. NO ONE TOUCHES MY BOOKS!
