blog on the blink

On election night, as I stayed up late watching the result trickle in, waiting and waiting for Ohio's numbers, I finally gave up and created a blog entry to post before going to bed. However, when I tried to preview it to check for any errors, it didn't post. Things went downhill from there

I tried to reinstall the software, but that didn't work. I quit and restarted the program and the computer. I tried trashing the preferences.. I tried several different remedies. and finally, I decided to try deleting the latest entry in case it was just somehow corrupted. Instead, and I can not tell you how in the world this happened, it deleted the ENTIRE blog! All my files were utterly gone on the laptop.

Blessedly I'd backed them up to the desktop on October 28, so I'd only lost 5 days of entries. Plus, I still had the files on the server... the ones that you see. I chose to copy the files from the server onto my laptop since they contained the 5 missing days, in hopes that the software would just pick them up and integrate them into a new blog. And it did, except it changed the design. And no matter what I did with the code or the stylesheets, some sort of default design kept showing up in my preview. I also have a test server I use and one that I keep backup files of my blog in. So, I tried to just publish the new blog to see if perhaps the problem was simply local. But that didn't work. Not only that, but I lost all the comments for the past 5 days, and there were quite a few. They are still listed at Haloscan, but they don't show up on the corresponding blog entries anymore. I'll have to go and recreate every one of them, if I want to keep them displayed.

So, I took my blog out of circulation at BE, and worked on it off and on in between packing all day yesterday. Several times I got very frustrated and had to give up. All this was happening at the same time I was getting angry at the press and most liberal bloggers. Oh, and someone left a really unbelievably hypocritical comment on an old blog entry.

Anyway, today, I just decided to keep creating entries. I'll decide later if I want to publish with the default design or not. I hate the look. I might be up for a new design but NOT this one! Tune in for more later. I really am expecting progress.
