modern technology

This morning, my daughter called and woke me up. Her car battery died over the weekend and this morning, it was becoming apparent to her, after she had to get a jump to leave her home, get a jump after getting gas, and get a jump each time she shut the car off, that she was going to have to skip class to go get a new battery. She called me to transfer some money from her savings to her checking account. I was also able to look up the nearest auto parts store for her to get the battery and have it installed. Of course, I did all this before I ever even got out of bed!

I could tell that her circumstances were starting to stress her out, but I was also pleased to hear her manage it well. She said, "the store doesn't open for another 15 minutes. I'll just go get a latte and make this a really nice day!" Of course, if I lived up there, I'd be out the door in minutes to go to her aid, or at least join her for lunch, helping her to further have a nice day. It made me excited to move up there. So, after I finish this entry, I'll start preparations; such as give notice to our landlord, and go get some more packing tape, take inventory of our food, and start setting aside things to get rid of. Greg got all the boxes down from the attic storage yesterday before he left for Tacoma. I've also got to go to the bank and get out the meager cash we started putting away last August into a safe deposit box for our 25th anniversary trip. It's not much but it will buy groceries and gas until Greg's next paycheck. So, we're really glad it's there. Maybe we'll just take a 25th anniversary trip for our 26th anniversary? Oh well. We'll find another way to celebrate that landmark, I'm sure. For now, we need to survive to see it!

We've got other things to be excited about too. My brother and his wife just had their first baby last week. Fiona Erin made her debut on October 28, early in the morning. I cried when he called, and within hours, he'd sent photos. Don't you just love modern technology?
