the price of gas

I read in someone's blog that she's heard lot of people complain about gas prices these days, cursing Bush at the pump even as they curse him for the supposed "war for oil" that we are currently waging in Iraq. But, she goes on to ask "have you ever stopped to think of the other things you can purchase a gallon of for under $2?"

Not milk....around here a gallon of the white stuff will run you close to $3.

A gallon of orange juice...over $5

20oz containers of bottled water...$1.19 each...almost $7 per gallon...(there are 128 oz in a gallon, btw)

Coke or Pepsi...2, 2-liter bottles at $1.49 each= $2.98 per gallon (aprox)

Look at how much MORE these everyday items cost per gallon, but do you hear folks cursing our president while standing in line at the grocery store?

Now lets take a look at what a few OTHER people pay for gas around the world....

Average price, in US dollars, for a gallon of gas...as of September 13, 2004 - $2.04

Belgium $5.12
France $4.93
Germany $ 5.41
Italy: $ 5.28
Nthrlnds $ 5.74
UK $ 5.53

So, the next time you complain about the price of gas, while sitting there in your huge SUVs at McDs drive through, happily forking over $1.89 for a super-sized cup of carbonated sugar water that you will consume far before that gallon of gas has been consumed, you might want to remember these facts.
