Trondheim, Norway

In between alternating hail and rain (and a couple of sunny moments) Andy took these pictures around Trondheim during a few days' visit.

Oslo's airport: clean and serene.
Trondheim is built along the banks of the Nidelva, a salmon river.
Former storefronts, viewed from the 19th c. Old Town Bridge (Bybrua).
Nidaros Cathedral, started in 1070.
Cathedral detail.

The footbridge over the Nidelva.

Treehouses as art installation around a downtown church.
Trendy shoppers ignore one-legged homeless guy.

Municipal bikes for use around town.
Bybrua, Nidaros steeple, and old stores.
I climbed up to the 17th c. Kristiansten Festning (fortress).
View from the ramparts.

This is a good fortress to have if you need to repel the Swedes.
Downtown Trondheim from the hilltop.

I had a cup of coffee in out of the rain and wind.

I came across this event by accident. It's hard to explain.
It's the Nidelva Bathtub Race.
In fact, I'm not going to explain. Just enjoy the photos.

I took refuge from the weather inside the museum at the Archbishop's Palace.
I stumbled across the coolest Volvo in Trondheim.
And then I happened to cross the footbridge...
...just in time for the annual Rubber Ducky Race.

Race observers.
I walked through the old hospital district...
...and back across the river to look at the boats.
And the 6:10 am flight to Oslo provided a sunrise worth waking up for.
