Christopher Ireland CEO, Cheskin

This is a TED story I never expected to write.

I've know and been a friend of Christopher's for over 16 years. We have worked collaboratively, our families have spent weekends together, we've been to concerts and parties together. Yet one of my TED highlights this year was quite unexpected (only upstaged by being kissed by Goldie Hawn, email me for that story...) and because of Christopher. We had dinner together, alone.

While this may seem insignificant, it's not. Only in these kind of one-to-one social situations do you get the highest signal to noise ratio. And sitting outside at the "Indian Summer" restaurant on a clear February night, I learned a lot about Christopher.

So, I urge all of you who have never taken the time to meet with someone outside of a group -- business, social or personal -- to make the time and have dinner. You'll be surprised by what you hear.

Christopher is one of the people who gently persuaded me to come to TED. It only took me 10 years to listen. I'm glad I did. If I had not, we probably never would have had dinner together, alone that is.

What we all know about Christopher, is that she's the CEO of Cheskin. It's a dream job working on products and services that change our lives -- and a job that is full of ups, downs, stress, & joy -- it's got it all, every day. But mostly it is very simulating work and that is definitely something that drives her.

So you can learn more about Christopher by visiting the Cheskin web site and reading Christopher's blog. But if you really want to get to know her, have dinner with her.

From Christopher's blog (see the link below to stay in-Sync with Christopher via her blog):
I'm at the TED conference this week. I've been attending this conference since 1992, and I can honestly credit it with a series of "ah ha's!" over the years. It was at TED that I first learned of the "world wide web" and Mosaic, well before they hit commercial early adopters. TED introduced me to nanotechnology, biocomputing, flying cars, blogging and a host of other "truth is stranger than fiction" concepts. Thankfully, this conference balances science with highly creative music, art, poetry and humor.
