Thanks for being interested in helping.
Here are some suggestions. These will change as the situation changes. There are many things that can be done to build support.
- If you are associated with Middlesex School, please check the website of the Middlesex Graduates for Estabrook Woods (MGFE) at <www.estabrookwoods.org> or e-mail them at <Estabrook_Woods[at]hotmail.com> (without the brackets). These graduates are working hard to craft a solution in which all can take pride. Other graduates, parents, etc., can write to Middlesex School Board of Trustees, Middlesex School, POB 9122, 1400 Lowell Road, Concord MA 01742, and to the student environmental organization Common Sense at Middlesex School. (Please send a copy to MGFE).
- Interested citizens can write the school or to the Editor, Concord Journal, POB 9191, Concord MA 01742. The email is: <concord@cnc.com>.
- Please pass on information about this controversy to friends, to environmental and educational organizations, and to reporters. Let people know about these web sites. Please link to them on open space, conservation, educational, and environmental websites.
- If you are an artist, participate in the annual Musketaquid Arts Festival (c/o Emerson Umbrella, Concord MA 01742), which celebrates the preservation of Estabrook Woods.
- If you have skills as a historian, archaeologist, photographer, naturalist, GIS mapper, or photo interpreter, etc., there is lots to learn about the Estabrook Woods.
- If you would like to support the citizens who are appealing the wetlands permit, you can make an earmarked tax-deductible charitable contribution to Restore the North Woods, POB 1099, Concord MA 01742-1099 (978-287-0320). Web address is <www.restore.org> and e-mail is <restore@restore.org>). Please earmark the donation specifically for Estabrook Preservation. They would appreciate hearing of your support and about your ideas, even if you can't contribute.
- If you are associated with the Sierra Club [click here to see their strong statement] or with the Appalachian Mountain Club, thank club officials for the support of the Massachusetts Chapter (Sierra) and the Greater Boston Group (AMC). If you are a Thoreauvian, thank the Thoreau Country Conservation Alliance (POB 641, Lincoln MA 01773) and the Thoreau Society (44 Baker Farm, Lincoln MA 01773) for their help.
- If you would like to help fund land purchases in Estabrook Country, you can make a tax-deductible contribution to the Concord Land Conservation Trust, POB 141, Concord MA 01741, or the Carlisle Conservation Foundation, Carlisle MA 01741. You can also speak to Wes Ward at The Trustees of Reservations.
- If you have any information concerning the Estabrook Country, or have any questions or suggestions about the Middlesex situation, please contact me at <sfe[[at]]post.harvard.edu>.
